Walden 2 Barn
14'x 18'. Small very charming timber frame barn with 8"x8" hand hewn timbers and pole rafters that would make a perfect small guest house, art studio, office, pool house, garden shed, or even a small addition to existing home. It is in very good shape except for the posts bottoms (which is a problem of almost all barns this age). We plan to fix the bottoms so that we have a side wall height of 10'. This is enough to have a small loft in 1/2 of the floor space with 30" knee wall which is plenty of room for a sleeping loft for children or even adults who are inclined towards a more minimalistic and cost effective life style.
We also plan to carefully take off and keep the slightly rusted tin roof and faded red barn siding so that these elements are available if you would want to put them back on the barn to maintain this very old and colonial character that you see it these photos. There is more of the same siding on the main barn, which was built in 1859 BTW, so we will have plenty to do the entire exterior of this Walden 2 Cabin.
Although this originally just had a dirt floor, it can be built on a foundation deck and we could supply some very old wide plank flooring for both the first floor and loft that would complete this exceptional little timber frame barn. More photos will be coming as we take this structure down.
